How Google AdSense and Google Play Payouts Work: Estimated vs Finalised Earnings, FX and Bookkeeping
Once Google revenue starts arriving, the question 'why doesn't the dashboard match my bank deposit?' soon follows. Understanding how earnings are finalised and paid makes monthly reconciliation much easier.
From earnings to bank deposit
The amount you see in the AdSense dashboard in real time is estimated earnings. After the month ends, Google removes invalid traffic and reviews the figures, and the finalised earnings are usually added to your balance early the following month. Estimated and finalised amounts can therefore differ slightly.
If your finalised balance exceeds the payment threshold (US$100 or the local-currency equivalent, per AdSense help) and there are no holds, payment is issued around the 21st. Bank transfers can take several more business days to arrive. Check the AdSense Help Center's payment timeline for the authoritative schedule.
1–31 October estimated earnings accrue (dashboard)
Early November October earnings finalised → added to balance
~21 November payment issued if balance ≥ threshold
Days later funds arrive at the bank
Common reasons payments are held
Most of these appear as alerts on the AdSense Payments page, so check it every month during your first few months of earnings.
- Address verification (PIN) not completed: a PIN is mailed when earnings reach the verification threshold, and payments wait until it is entered.
- Identity verification pending: respond to any identity check requests.
- Missing tax information: without US tax information, the maximum withholding rate may apply to earnings from US viewers.
- Payment method missing or wrong: if the bank account holder name differs from the payee name, transfers can bounce.
- A manual payment hold set on the account.
Exchange rates: why the deposit differs
AdSense earnings are reported in your account currency, but when paid to a local bank account the exchange rate on the payment date is applied. The same US$100 can arrive as different local amounts depending on that rate, intermediary bank charges and your bank's incoming-transfer fees.
In your books, record consistently which rate from which date you used. Using the payment-date rate is simplest; record any difference from the actual deposit separately as FX gain/loss or bank fees so it is easy to explain at tax time.
Separating AdSense and YouTube income
YouTube Partner Program revenue is also paid through AdSense, so one payment can mix website ad income and YouTube income. If you run channels and sites separately or need to treat them differently for tax, you need to split them.
The AIBIZAP AdSense payment history tool signs in with read-only Google access, separates finalised payments into AdSense and YouTube, applies payment-date exchange rates and exports everything to Excel. Rates come from a public API that publishes European Central Bank reference data.
How Google Play app income differs
App sales and in-app purchases are settled separately through the Google Play Console. Google Play's service fee, local taxes and refunds are deducted from what customers pay, and developers are typically paid once a month for the previous month. Fee rates depend on factors such as subscriptions and annual revenue, so check the Play Console Help Center for current terms.
Play Console earnings reports are transaction-level and multi-currency, so monthly totals take effort. The AIBIZAP Google Play earnings tool reads the reports stored in your Cloud Storage bucket with read-only access and totals monthly sales, fees, refunds, taxes and net payouts in an Excel workbook.
Monthly reconciliation habits
This guide summarises the general flow based on Google's public help pages. Thresholds, timing and fees can change, so rely on the latest AdSense and Play Console Help Center information for final decisions.
- When finalised earnings post early in the month, record them and compare with the dashboard estimate.
- Keep one line per payment: payment date, amount in payment currency, rate applied and actual deposit.
- Split AdSense, YouTube and Play income by source.
- Once a year, check that your tax details and payee name match your bank account.
- Follow your country's tax rules and professional advice for the tax treatment itself.
